Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks in Rajya Sabha

PM Narendra Modi is now speaking in the Rajya Sabha. He opens his speech by saying that house should respect mandate in democracy and threats don't work in Parliament. He says that for 14 years he was threatened about jail in Gujarat but nothing happened.

In the last 9 months, Congress has often alleged that NDA is merely renaming schemes started by them. To counter this, he lists out series of schemes which were started during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's rule but their name were changed during UPA tenure. Modi tries to break the perception of BJP being a party of upper class hindus of North India by listing different states which do not fit this stereotype.

Opposition has alleged that Modi government is anti-poor. Modi answers this accusation by listing out schemes which have been rolled out for the sake of poor. He says from Skill India to Ganga Cleaning projects all the schemes have been done for the under privileged and not for the corporate world. He says that money from coal auctions goes to states in the eastern belt and this will aid in their development. He says that their is no political agenda in this and Congress-ruled states will be also asked to join the development process.

Suddenly during PM Modi's speech, Mayawati makes an intervention. She says that if the government is indeed pro-poor why is there no reservations for SC-STs in private sector. She says that if reservation is not implemented then it would mean that government is pandering to the corporates.

PM Modi starts speaking again. He lists out insurance schems started to bring more people under the protective net. He mentions schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana etc.

Many parties have needled NDA government for transferring officers arbitarily. To set the record straight, PM Modi again takes recourse to history.

He says:

Modi comments that many critics say that while lot of talks are there nothing really has changed on ground. To couner this, Modi quotes stats on work done. He takes on UPA's development record and says that work on ground has increased leaps and bounds in the last 9 months.

PM Modi says

Modi points out different central schemes where NDA's performance has been far better than that of UPA. He says from giving Aadhar card to ensuring job days under MGNREGA, his government has done far better job. He appreciates MPs who have done a commendable job in implementing Adarsh Gram Yojna.

After attacking Congress, PM now takes on the Left. Indirectly taking a jibe at Left, he says those with 'imported ideology' got to serve West Bengal for 30 years. But he says that nothing changed on ground.

PM now makes an impassioned pitch for Land Bill. He says for industry large swathes of land is required and the existing law doesn't give such liberty. He says that even Congress government found it tough to implement land bill with tough provision. Modi says that Rajya Sabha is the council of the states and it is important for the house to respect sentiment of different states. He says that limitation of the land bill needs to be removed and if there is any deficiencies with the ordinance, they can be sorted out.

Now PM gives his view on the existing Kashmir situation. He says that government has been formed based on the Common Minimum Programme and it will continue to work on the basis of it.

Indirectly refering to opposition's demand for his explantion to Mufti Mohammad's controversial statement, Modi says that he will not be commentating on any comments made by anyone.
